The Nikanihk Ohci Foundation, Inc. (N.O.F.I.) was established in December 1987 as a charitable organization to support the students of Frontier School Division. Nikanihk Ochi is a Cree phrase which means “for the future”.
N.O.F.I. is administered by a Board of Directors. N.O.F.I. provides an organizational framework to promote education in a variety of ways:
- Scholarships and other financial awards for students who wish to further their education at a post-secondary institution such as university, college, vocational, technical or trades training school,
- Non-monetary donations (i.e. books for school libraries), and
- Administration of grant money.
N.O.F.I. is empowered to solicit and raise funds from the public to support its aim. Each year the Foundation raises funds through various activities, which include Frontier School Division Annual School Committee Conference.
